Methanol, dimethyl ether and other alcohol ether fuels converted from coal have good environmental protection, high thermal efficiency and strong adaptability. The development of such new energy sources has been included in the National Medium and Long-Term Scientific and Technological Development Plan. So far, more than 10 large-scale methanol plants have been approved throughout the country, which will lay a solid foundation for the rise of China's alcohol ether fuel industry.
Senior officials and experts from the National Development and Reform Commission and Tsinghua University stated at the meeting that the energy shortage in our country has continued since 2002 and will continue to exist. The automobile industry, which is a pillar industry of the national economy, is under the dual pressure of energy and environmental protection. It is imperative to seek new environmental protection energy. China has richer coal resources, and coal chemical research and development also have a strong technical foundation. At the beginning of the “Sixth Five-Year Planâ€, a large number of experts in production, education and research actively promoted the clean fuels for alcohol ethers and the clean-car business, and significant progress has been made. Therefore, the use of alcohol ether fuels in the automotive industry is the only way that is in line with national conditions.
At the same time, the combined ammonia methanol production process has now been industrialized in China. It will not only save energy and reduce production of synthetic ammonia, but also enable the fertilizer companies to break through the single product pattern. There are 169 methanol production enterprises in China, of which 153 are nitrogen production and co-production of methanol. These companies have made breakthroughs and progress in co-production of methanol.
According to experts at the meeting, the application potential of methanol downstream products is still being tapped. For example, internationally emerging projects include methanol-based light hydrocarbons, hydrogen, other higher alcohols, fuel cells, and power plant fuels.
