Shangqiu’s illegal firecrackers workshop killed two couples and died on the spot

The three main houses and two matching houses on the site were collapsed and damaged in varying degrees. The reporter confirmed from the Guodian Township government that the explosion was caused by Li Zhentian, a 62-year-old villager of the Lizhuang Formation in the village of Liuzhuang Village, who had illegally processed gunpowder, causing the couple to die on the spot.

On the morning of January 4, the reporter saw at the scene that the main house of Li Zhentian had collapsed and the scene was in a mess. According to the introduction of the nearby villagers, Li Zhentian did not find that a large number of gunpowder was produced at ordinary times, and the outer door was always closed. Li Zhentian’s usual action was also very mysterious.

The reporter learned from the Guodian township government that Li Zhentian had the skills of preparing gunpowder in the early years and recently secretly prepared gunpowder at home to prepare himself to use firecrackers to assemble fireworks. He had not yet had time to assemble and the gunpowder exploded, causing the couple to die.

A township government official said that when the Guodian police station investigated the police, Li Zhentian’s daughter said: “Father had firecrackers before. Afterward the government refused to let it go. He stopped and came back to visit his parents in the past few days. He also said to do something. Firecrackers, I persuaded him not to do it. He agreed at the time and he couldn’t think of something else!”

After the incident, the relevant departments of public security, safety supervision, and fire control in Xiayi County rushed to the scene for rescue and disposal.
