Mann provides engines and other ancillary equipment for the new P-17A frigate in India
India is expected to open its first P-17A frigate in early 2017 and will deliver it to the Indian Navy in 2023. The frigate construction project includes the construction of seven P-17A frigates, each of which will be equipped with two MAN 12V28/33D STC engines. Among them, Mazaro Shipyard Co., Ltd. in Mumbai, India will build four P-17A frigates, and the Gardner Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Calcutta, India will build three P-17A frigates.
It is reported that the 28/33D STC engine represents Mann's cutting-edge technology, not only a 28/33D STC engine with a long-term maintenance interval and easy-to-maintain design, but also a competitive fuel consumption rate. Since the engine can perform all maintenance work for overhaul without being removed from the frigate, it will not only further expand the operational window of the frigate, but will also minimize the need for engine maintenance work.
