Recently, Detroit Electric has delivered the first mass-produced SP:01 electric sports car to Chinese dealers.
The SP:01 two-seater is based on the Lotus Elise platform and features a 285-horsepower electric motor. When the vehicle is fully charged, its cruising range can reach 288 kilometers. With a top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h) and an acceleration of 3.7 seconds from 0 to 96 km/h, it is the world's fastest pure electric production sports car. The electric sports car has the world's most energy-intensive car battery pack, exceeding 140 kilowatts per kilogram.
It is reported that Detroit Electric Vehicle Company was founded in 2008 by Albert Lam, former CEO of British Lotus. Initially focused on the Chinese market only afterwards, the business was extended to Asia and Europe.
