ABB will deploy 40 special transformers for wind turbines at an offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.

The MHI Vestas offshore wind turbine is 195 meters (640 feet) high, almost two-thirds of the height of the Eiffel Tower and weighs 1,000 metric tons, about twice the weight of a full-load Airbus A380. The rotating blades of the generator are 80 meters (262 feet) long. The rotating area is equivalent to three football fields and has a power generation capacity of 8 megawatts. It is the most powerful wind turbine in the world.
In addition to transformers, ABB will also supply a high-voltage cable system to transport offshore wind power to land.
It is reported that the offshore wind farm belongs to the Danish utility company DONG Energy A/S. After completion, the wind farm will provide clean electricity to more than 800,000 families.
Prior to this, ABB also supplied special transformers for wind turbines of similar offshore wind farms in the Irish Sea at the end of 2014.
